Apple has launched its customary iOS app, 12 Days of Gifts, offering free games, books, music and apps over the Christmas and New Year period.
Each year, Apple launches an app that provides a single free App Store download each day from December 26 to January 6. Previously it was called 12 Days of Christmas, but this year it’s been labelled the rather more non-denominational 12 Days of Gifts.
Also new this year, the US has finally been invited to Apple’s Christmas party. Rather oddly, Apple had previously excluded its own home country in favour of the UK, Europe, Japan and Canada.
12 Days of Gifts can be downloaded now for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPad, though it won’t offer its first gift for another 16 days. If you’re worried that you’ll forget all about the app’s existence in this period, don’t worry - you can set it to notify you when new deals become available.
Apple notes that not all content will be available in all countries, but you can bet there’ll be a fine selection wherever the app is available.
Last year things kicked off with the Maroon 5 'Holiday Gift’ EP - a rather shaky start in our books - but matters soon improved. Day two saw the fine footy fantasy fulfilment game Score! Classic Goals made available for free, and day three involved a free episode of the excellent Sherlock.
In fact, there were plenty of choice cuts throughout the 12 day period, including some Pixar shorts, The Photo Cookbook app and the Sonic Jump game.
