PS4 PlayStation App launches for iOS and Android

Sony has finally launched the PlayStation App for iOS and Android devices ahead of the UK PS4 release date on Friday.

The PS4 PlayStation App was originally due to launch on November 22, but was delayed in order to carry out some final tweaks.

You can download the PlayStation App now via Google Play and the App Store for free, despite the console not being available until later this week in the UK.

“Connect with your PlayStation 4 system, manage your game downloads and be ready to play when you walk in the door”, explains Sony. “The PlayStation App lets you control your PS4 system remotely, stay up date with your game and adds a second-screen experience to hit titles – all from one smooth interface. Now PlayStation goes where you go.”

You’ll be able to chat with your friends, receive notifications and invitations from your PS4 and set new targets for your friends to achieve in game.

The app also turns your smartphone or tablet into a second screen for the PS4, allowing you to navigate the PlayStation UI or “Dynamic Menu” and utilise your device’s on-screen keyboard.

You can also buy content from the PlayStation Store and have them download on your PS4 back at home. The app offers access to your Sony Entertainment Account as well so you can keep your payments managed.

Sony has also included all the latest news in a stream that pulls content from the official PlayStation blog and website.

Soon the app will be expanded to offer new game content for titles like Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.

Currently games like The PlayRoom already offer second screen functionality using the app.
