Vodafone 4G coming to a city near you soon

Vodafone has announced it will be launching its Ultra 4G network on August 29, starting in London with 12 more cities to be covered by the end of 2013.

On August 29, the Vodafone Ultrafast 4G network will launch in London, claiming to offer speeds six times faster than the average 3G.

By the end of the year, 12 more UK cities will be added, including Glasgow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Nottingham and Leeds.

Vodafone aims to cover 98 per cent of the UK population with indoor 4G by the end of 2015, which is part of its £900 million network investment.

From August 12, Vodafone is launching its Red 4G-ready tariffs, starting from £26 a month offering unlimted minutes and texts and 2GB of data on a 12 month SIM-only contract. These contracts will automatically upgrade to the 4G network when it becomes available in that location.

Every new Vodafone Red 4G-ready contract comes with the choice of a Spotify Premium or Sky Sports Mobile TV subscription free of charge.

“With 4G, speed is just the start: it’s what you do with it that really matters”, said Guy Laurence, CEO of Vodafone UK. “We are taking 4G into a new league by offering sport; and changing the tune with all the music you could want. 4G is finally worth getting and there’s plenty to look forward to…”

The Sky Sports Mobile TV package offers all Vodafone 4G customers the Sky Sports coverage on their mobile phone for free, including exlcusive liver coverage of the Premier League Football, the Ashes and major golf and rugby tours.

“We’re delighted that millions of Vodafone customers can now choose to enjoy easy and convenient access to Sky Sports via their smartphone,” said David Gibbs, Director of Digital Media at Sky Sports.

The Spotify Premium subscription allows music lovers to access the Spotify library from their smartphone, tablets or home entertainment system as well as on their desktop.

“We’re very happy to announce this partnership between Spotify and Vodafone,” said Michael Abbattista, Spotify’s Global Head of Telcom/ISP Partnerships. “This new deal offers Vodafone UK’s millions of customers quick and easy access to all the world’s music on their mobile.”

Customers already on a Vodafone Red tariff with a 4G compatible device can upgrade to the ultrafast network for an additional £5 per month, but also gain access to the Spotify or Sky Sports deal for no additional cost and double their data as well.
