The LG G2 has been formally unveiled as the manufacturer’s latest flagship phone, with the Samsung Galaxy S4 rival packing a 5.2-inch edge-to-edge full HD display.
A handset tasked with rivalling the HTC One and iPhone 5 atop the smartphone stakes, the LG G2 boasts a range of innovative features and additions, including rear-mounted volume controls and a monstrous amount of processing power.
“Our definition of innovation today is technology that truly resonates with consumers,” Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications said. “We have always listened to and learned from consumers in pursuit of innovation. We took this research to new heights in developing LG G2, the most exciting and ambitious phone in our company’s history.”
LG G2 Features
The LG G2 features list is a what’s what of premium innards and high-end components. Truly brining the fight to the current leaders of the smartphone scene, the LG G2’s show piece is its 5.2-inch edge-to-edge display which minimises the phone’s bezel while bringing impressive 1920 x 1080 pixel visuals and a 423 pixels-per-inch image density. An IPS panel, the screen cuts the side bezel to just 2.65mm.
Set to land in both black and white colour variants, the LG G2 is just 8.9mm thin and, thanks to the edge-to-edge display, just 2.7-inches wide. It has done away with all side mounted physical buttons, instead hosting a new ‘Rear Key concept’ which sees a selection of volume and power controls sit on the back of the phone in a move the company is claiming will make the device more ergonomic.
Despite Android 4.3 having recently entered the realms of reality, the LG G2 will launch with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in tow. Powered by a speedy 2.26GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, the LG G2 specs sheet adds 2GB of RAM to the mix alongside the option for 16GB and 32GB storage capacities. Ensuring this expansive screen and powerful CPU can be utilised all day, the handset boasts a sizable 3,000mAh Lithium-Ion battery.
Maintaining its high-end presence across the board, the LG G2’s camera collection sees a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera line up alongside a 2.1-megapixel secondary snapper up front. Not content with a high megapixel count, the G2 adds optical image stabilisation and multi-point autofocus to further enhance its imaging abilities.
With 4G and NFC connectivity options included, the LG G2 is rounded off by a number of new LG UX improvements, with new Slide Aside multitasking capabilities, Guest Mode private use and QuickRemote capabilities all making the cut.
LG G2 Release Date and Price
While a precise LG G2 release date has yet to be formally confirmed, the manufacturer has revealed the handset will be hitting retailers in the coming weeks, with the new flagship phone to touch down in the UK later this summer.
The company stated: “The LG G2 will be rolled out globally in over 130 carriers in the next eight weeks starting in South Korea followed by North America, Europe and other key markets.”
On a similar front, a finalised LG G2 price tag has yet to be announced although it is expected the handset will rival its high-end competitors on a pricing front too.
