PS4 pre-orders in UK no longer guarantee launch arrival, confirms Sony

Sony has confirmed that any PS4 pre-orders made after August 6 will not receive the console until after launch.

Releasing a statement to the majority of PS4 retailers, anyone in the UK hoping to get a PS4 console on launch day will be sorely disappointed as all Day One stock has now gone.

Sony’s official PS4 pre-order page is currently not allowing any pre-orders whatsoever, listing its next-generation console as “Out of Stock”.

We’ve searched all of the PS4 pre-order sites we’ve found and discovered the majority of them have removed the pre-order option for Sony’s upcoming console, complete with a disclaimer explaining the situation.

“Please note that Sony have confirmed all PlayStation 4 pre-orders placed from August 6 will now not be guaranteed for launch,” reads the ShopTo disclaimer. “You can still pre-order PS4 with us in case we receive cancellations and can fulfil your order for launch.”

Amazon UK are offering a similar deal, stating that although launch day console can no longer be guaranteed, it will be shipped as soon as possible – stock permitting.

“Please note – due to high demand, orders placed for the PlayStation 4 console from August 6 may be received after release date,” reads the Amazon PS4 page. “We will ship orders as soon as we receive sufficient inventory.”

The PS4 landing page on the Toys R Us website simply states “pre-orders sold out”, asking its customers to “register to receive an email when available” and allowing no further pre-orders to be made.

Zavvi has simply added a small note beneath the pre-order option for the PS4 and a rumoured December 31 release date, which states that “orders place [sic] from 6th Aug may be received after release date.”

GAME is still allowing customers to pay a £20 deposit to guarantee their PS4 comes on launch day, with no disclaimer in sight at the time of writing.

ASDA on the other hand has stated that “orders placed on or after the 5th August are not guaranteed for Day 1 delivery”, pushing the cut off period back a day for guaranteed launch delivery.

Tesco has also followed ASDA’s claims, noting that “as of 5th August 2013, Tesco cannot guarantee we will have the stock to fulfil your order.”

The last of the big three UK supermarkets, Sainsbury’s has removed the option to pre-order the PS4, replacing it with a “notify me” button instead, but with no explanation.

Xbox One pre-order stock has also sold out at certain retailers, with supplies running low. Expect to see a similar headline for Microsoft's next-gen console soon.
