Samsung Smartwatch Concept
September 4 looks set to be a date to add to your diaries, with Samsung reportedly planning to launch both the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and the mooted Samsung Smartwatch on that day.
With Samsung said to plotting to host its pre-IFA 2013 press conference on September 4, latest reports out of the company’s native South Korea have suggested that it will use the event to unveil not only the widely expected Samsung Galaxy Note 3, but the smartwatch product it is known to be working on.
In what looks set to be a busy day for the tech industry, with IFA 2013 officially kicking off on September 6, Samsung’s press conference is set to be held within hours of Sony’s own pre-IFA announcement.
Although Samsung has yet to formally confirm the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the stylus hosting ‘phablet’ device has been the subject of many leaks and countless rumours over the past couple of weeks.
Expected to be something of an oversized take on the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Note 3 is expected to take a number of features from Samsung’s flagship phone, including the handset’s 1.9GHz quad-core processor, 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera and 2-megapixel secondary snapper.
With Samsung believed to have been testing three different screen sizes for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 follow-on, recent reports have suggested that a 5.7-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 pixel Full HD display has been selected over 5.5-inch and 6-inch options. Following the software’s recent launch, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is believed to be at the heart of the Note 3.
While the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been the subject of many leaks, the Samsung Smartwatch is shrouded in a little more controversy.
Believed to be the first device in a new ‘Gear’ branded range of wearable products, Samsung confirmed earlier this year that it was working on its own smartwatch product in a bid to fend off the expected Apple iWatch.
"We've been preparing the watch product for so long," Samsung's executive VP Lee Young Hee said in an interview earlier this year. He added: "We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."
