We could see the iPad mini 2 with Retina display this year after all, with fresh reports suggesting that LG has overcome its manufacturing issues.
Earlier this week, the ever-erratic Taiwanese tech industry daily Digitimes claimed that the iPad mini 2 would be launched this year - but without the Retina display that many had predicted.
Rather, it was claimed, the Retina-equipped mini would be delayed until 2014.
Now the publication itself has changed its view on the iPad mini 2 Retina situation, claiming that it will be released this year after all.
According to the usual "industry sources," LG has made headway on the technical issues it was having in producing an iPad mini-sized Retina display.
It's claimed that LG "expects to ship about 2-3 million units a month in preparation for Apple's expected October release date."
Most are expecting the iPad mini 2 to be even lighter and thinner than the already-svelte iPad mini (which is only 7.2mm thick) with a smaller bezel. Despite this, we're expecting a performance upgrade courtesy of an improved processor.
The report also supports suggestions that the fifth generation iPad will be lighter and thinner than the iPad 4, thanks partly to the fact that it will have "only one light tube in its backlight instead of two."
With the iPhone 5S and an all-new budget iPhone set to launch over the coming months, late 2013 could well be an incredibly busy release schedule for Apple.
