Xbox One games should cost around the same as 360 titles
Microsoft has reportedly confirmed pricing for the first Xbox One games, with first party next-gen titles to cost the same as their Xbox 360 counterparts.
With the company’s next-generation console having come under criticism for being £80 more expensive that is leading rival, the PS4, Microsoft has quelled consumer distaste somewhat, suggesting Xbox One games will be no more expensive that current new launches.
Speaking with gaming blog Kotaku during E3, an official Microsoft spokesperson reportedly confirmed the price plans, suggesting first party Xbox One games will hit retailers around the $60 (£38) mark. Earlier this week, Microsoft set the Xbox One price at £429, the PS4 price is just £349.
“A company spokesperson confirmed that Microsoft's own first-party Xbox One games will cost $59,99, the same price top Xbox 360 games have,” the latest reports have stated.
With Sony having yet to discuss PS4 games pricing, third party developers for both titles, are currently remaining tight-lipped on how much they will charge for the first next-generation games when the two new consoles are formally launched later this year.
While the potential lack of price hikes for games will be sure to appease many, Microsoft has come under repeated criticism since the Xbox One’s unveiling for issues with an always required internet connection and a lack game sharing options. Despite these concerns, Microsoft has suggested that these negative reactions were “kind of as we expected.”
"This is a big change, consumers don't always love change, and there's a lot of education we have to provide to make sure that people understand,” Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer for Xbox said. "We're trying to do something pretty big in terms of moving the industry forward for console gaming into the digital world. We believe the digital world is the future, and we believe digital is better."
