A fresh benchmark test appears to have revealed the existence of a quad-core Nokia smartphone.
Over at GFXBench, a test result has appeared for a Nokia Windows Phone device running a quad-core processor. There are currently no Windows Phone 8 devices on the market with such a set-up - they're all dual-core.
It's tempting to speculate that this could be a further pointer to the imminent Nokia EOS PureView launch. Nokia's much-anticipated and much-leaked cameraphone, and the direct successor to the Nokia 808 PureView, is set to be officially unveiled on July 11.
However, some of the other clues left in the benchmark test fail to support such a suggestion. For example, the display of the mystery device is listed as a 1280 x 720 example. This runs counter to reports that the Nokia EOS PureView will match the Nokia Lumia 925's 1280 x 768 OLED display.
Another odd aspect of the benchmark test is the GPU - it's an Adreno 305, which Nokia already uses in its entry-level Nokia Lumia 620. Hardly a cutting edge component of being allied to a quad-core CPU, we would have thought.
Still, with 3D performance amounting to around four times that of the Nokia Lumia 620's chip, there's clearly some good stuff going on inside this mystery Nokia Phone - whatever it is.
