LoveFilm has signed a deal with Fox International Channels to bring The Walking Dead exclusively to its LoveFilm Instant service.
Already dubbed one of the most-watched drama series in US cable history, The Walking Dead will be exclusively available to LoveFilm Instant subscribers in the UK.
The Amazon-owned company will be the only video on demand service in the UK to offer the horror-drama TV series.
“Securing the exclusive streaming rights to The Walking Dead is another exciting development for us”, said Chris Bird, LoveFilm’s Director of Film Strategy. “It is seriously impressive that the show has become one of the most-watched drama series in basic US cable history, and a real testament to its quality.”
Series one of The Walking Dead is available on LoveFilm Instant from today, with the other series due to be added over the next 18 months.
“We are thrilled to bring this great content to our members, especially as we are the only subscription service in the country to do so,” added Bird.
Based on the comic book series of the same name, The Walking Dead stars British actor Andrew Lincoln and is created by Frank Darabont of The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption fame.
In an effort to compete with rival services like Netflix, Amazon-owned LoveFilm has been consistently adding a range of new and exclusive content to its library.
It recently added Nickelodeon content and Disney Movies on Demand titles to its LoveFilm Instant service.
LoveFilm has also revealed that it won’t be adopting Netflix’s binge viewing strategy for any forthcoming exclusive content, including for its Amazon original political comedy Alpha House.
It will supposedly favour releasing weekly episodes of its new content and later offering unlimited streaming for the whole series.
