The Samsung ATIV Q features two operating systems and four convertible forms
The Samsung ATIV Q has been officially unveiled, with the multipurpose convertible tablet running both Android and Windows 8 operating systems.
A dual OS tablet that satisfies both work and play needs, the Samsung ATIV Q has not just one or two, but four separate convertible forms individually designed for more comfortable use as both a designated tablet and keyboard hosting PC replacement. These four forms have been dubbed 'tablet', 'typing', 'floating' and 'stand'.
Unveiling the device, an official Samsung spokesperson stated: "The ATIV Q is our new convertible tablet and we think this product is the perfect balance between flexibility, mobility and performance.” He added: “You have a variety of ways in which you can use this device.”

More than just a clever convertible, the Samsung ATIV Q features list sees a raft of high-end innards make the cut, with an Intel Core i5 Haswell processor running the show alongside 4GB of RAM and Intel 4400 HD Graphics. The ATIV Q boasts a 128GB SSD.
Slightly larger than a traditional Android tablet, the Samsung ATIV Q boasts a 13.3-inch QHD display, with the touchscreen interface boasting a stunningly sharp and vibrant 3200 x 1800p resolution and 275 pixels-per-inch image density.
Lining up at just 13.9mm thick, the Samsung ATIV Q is a reasonable 1.29kg in weight and comes bundled with the company’s much favoured S-Pen stylus. Combining with the 1024 sensitivity level digitiser, the S-Pen allows for more natural input options. Running Windows Phone 8 for business based usage, the ATIV Q also supports an unskinned version of Google’s Android OS, a combination that allows for a strong, work/play balance.
Allowing for a seamless and intuitive user experience, applications and files can be dragged between the two operating systems with minimal fuss or fanfare.
What’s more, the device’s quad-core CPU and Lithium-Ion battery, which reportedly provides a 9 hour battery life, both sit in the hinged rear compartment, meaning the keyboard hosting base section does not become uncomfortably hot during prolonged periods of intensive usage.
With an integrated camera offering 720p HD video recording capabilities, the Samsung ATIV Q is further enhanced by strong connectivity options. The hybrid back a single USB 3.0 port alongside a second USB 2.0 option. HDMI and the usual Wi-Fi and microSD connections also feature.
Samsung ATIV Q Release Date and Price
Although pitching the hybrid device into the realms of reality, Samsung has yet to fully confirm a precise Samsung ATIV Q release date, stating nothing more than that the convertible will hit retailers later this year.
