A disc-based version of Minecraft is coming exclusively to the Xbox 360 in June, named Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition.
For the first time since its launch in 2009, Minecraft will be available to buy on disc for the Xbox 360. The Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is available from June 28 and includes a free 48-hour Xbox Live Gold subscription for Minecraft fans to experience multiplayer for the pixelated world.
For anyone not acquainted with the game, Minecraft is a sandbox indie game that allows players to build constructions out of textured cubes in a 3D world. Players are encouraged to build their own Minecraft world and engage in one of the three gaming modes.
The first, Creative, is for anyone interested in making huge expansive worlds from scratch with unlimited resources. There aren’t any enemies and gamers can place or remove blocks at will. Player can fly about freely, aren’t able to take damage and don’t feel hunger.
In Survival mode, players must gather resources in order to build certain blocks and items. A much more dangerous world, players will encounter various enemies and are required to build shelters at night to protect themselves from the monsters that emerge from the dark. Gamers will also have health and hunger bars to worry about, engaging in combat and fashioning armour.
Hardcore mode is the same as Survival but introduces the hardest difficulty setting, disables respawns and deletes the player’s world on death.
The disc-based version of Minecraft will offer all of the well-loved features of the original game, which is also available on PC and MAC, with a Minecraft: Pocket Edition now on Android and iOS. Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition is already available on the XBLA Marketplace.
The PC/MAC version of the game has already sold over 10 million copies, and when the XBLA Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was released in May last year, it sold four million copies in the first five months.
