May 1 tipped as date for formal COD: Ghosts unveiling

Having leaked last week courtesy of a couple of overeager retailers, latest reports have suggested a formal Call of Duty: Ghosts unveiling will be held on May 1.

Hinted at by a selection of in-store advertising materials sent to US retailers, all of which sport a “do not display until 5/1” warning, it is expected that despite a selection of outlets having already jumped the gun, publisher Activision will officially announce Call of Duty: Ghosts later this week.

With a May 1 COD: Ghosts unveiling seemingly set to see the Modern Warfare 3 follow-on enter the realms of reality on Wednesday, further leaks have claimed the eagerly awaited title will see the game confirmed for next-generation platforms as well as the longstanding Xbox 360 and PS3.

With last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 formally unveiled on May 1st during the NBA basketball playoffs in the US, it is expected that Activision will once again confirm the title through a widespread advertising push, showing off a tantalising selection of in-game video.

Having been the first to tease the Call of Duty: Ghosts name and cover art, supermarket giant Tesco has now revised its listing for this year’s annual COD offering, hinting at a PS4 and Xbox 720 launch by stating the game will be built around a “new, next-generation engine.”

The retailer’s product listing reads: "The franchise that has defined a generation of gaming is set to raise the bar once again with the all-new Call of Duty: Ghosts. Published by Activision and developed by Infinity Ward, the studio that created the original Call of Duty and the seminal Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series, Call of Duty: Ghosts ushers in the next generation of the franchise, delivering a riveting all-new gameplay experience built on an entirely new story, setting and cast, all powered by a new next-generation Call of Duty engine."

Expected to follow-on where COD: Modern Warfare 3 left off, Call of Duty: Ghosts is believed be heading for a global release on November 5, with leaked cover art showing off a blindfolded soldier.
