Acer has just announced a new addition to its V Nitro Black Edition Series, the firm's first laptop to tout a 4K display.
The 15.6-inch notebook proffers a (frankly unnecessary) resolution of 3840 x 2160, dazzling retinas via an LED-backlit IPS display.
It’s not easy to run media goodies at 4K, of course, so Acer’s crammed its latest kit full of high-end innards to keep your frame-rate clocking in above 10fps.
Nvidia’s GeForce GTX860M provides graphical heft, with an Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM bringing up the computing rear.
It’s also got nippy flash storage too – a 128GB SSD to be precise – as well as a 1TB hard disk drive for good measure.
Dual wireless antennas support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, and four built-in speakers meld together for a total power output of 8W.
There’s also Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater built in, offering up some decent surround sound.
It’s not a bad looking beast either – the laptop sports a sleek, tapered design with a backlit keyboard and, of course, the retina-tingling display.
Sounds good, right? Well all of this becomes available at the end of November, starting from £1299.99 – not bad actually, considering the specs on offer.
The real question is whether you need a 4K resolution on a display that typically sits around 45cm from your eyeballs.
It’s also worth noting that while Nvidia’s 860M chip is fairly powerful kit as far as laptop graphics processing goes, you’re unlikely to be rendering game-play at 4K resolution with a decent frame-rate.
