UK Games Chart: Destiny’s record launch for new IP tops chart

Destiny has topped the UK Gaming Chart thanks to its major claim to fame as the biggest launch and new IP ever.

The Destiny release date happened last week on September 9 and it quickly shot to first place thanks to strong sales on all platforms. In fact, they were so strong, Destiny is now the biggest selling new IP ever and made $500 million on its first day alone.

What’s interesting is to see the platform breakdown for Destiny sales. The PS4 edition, accompanied by sales from the new hardware bundles in black and the limited edition Glacier White, took at 46 per cent share of sales. The Xbox One accounted for 36 per cent, Xbox 360 14 per cent and PS3 just 4 per cent.

The Sims 4 was number 1 last week, but has now dropped to second place with a 63 per cent drop in sales. Watch Dogs is now at number 3, down a place from last week despite retailer sales promotions.

Activision is doing pretty well this week as Call of Duty: Ghosts rises from sixth to fourth place, giving the publisher two games in the top five.

In at number 5 is The Last of Us: Remastered, which has also been bumped down a place from last week.

Despite the launch of the Xbox One and PS4 editions, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition and Minecraft: PS3 Edition are both still in the top ten this week. The 360 Edition is at number 6 and the PS3 Edition is holding strong at number 9.

NHL 15 is a new entry into the chart this week and enters at number 7, with Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare at number 8.

Closing this week’s top ten is Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution by Bandai Namco.
