Misfit Flash is one of the cheapest fitness trackers yet

Wearable tech start-up Misfit has launched its newest activity tracker, a $50 (£30) Bluetooth-enabled wearable accessory it calls Flash.

The minimalist, watch-like device tracks steps, distance, calories burned and sleep quality and syncs data back to the Misfit smartphone app for iOS and Android.

The company says the Flash can be used for a number of step-based activities like running, walking, tennis, basketball and football, as well as swimming (it’s waterproof to 30m) and cycling.

The device comes in 7 sporty colours and can be worn as a watch or clipped onto items of clothing like shoes, sleeves or pockets.

Like many rival devices, the idea is to progress towards movement goals and, although the device is display-less, pressing the face will display LED lights showing how far along you are.

The launch follows in the footsteps of the highly-rated Misfit Shine, which costs $100 (around £60) with both devices giving folks an affordable entry point into the wearables market.

The device, which never requires charging according to Misfit, can be pre-ordered today and will go on sale next month.
