Samsung Galaxy Note 4 US release date confirmed for October 17

Samsung has announced the Galaxy Note 4 will go on sale in the United States on October 17.

The 5.7-inch Quad HD phablet will open for pre-orders across the Atlantic on Friday.

The October 17 release date comes a week after it goes in sale in the UK on October 10.

The September 19 pre-order date in both countries coincides nicely with the release of the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, which will go head-to-head with the Note 4.

Samsung believes it has the edge on Apple’s device, thanks to its higher resolution 2560 x 1440, compared with the 1080p HD display on the iPhone 6 Plus.

The handset, Samsung’s fourth generation Note phablet, also boasts the powerful Snapdragon 805 processor, clocked at 2.7GHz and has 3GB of RAM.

Samsung has also packed in a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera and significantly upped the quality and sensor size of its ‘selfie’ camera, boosting it to 3.7-megapixels.

The Note 4 also boasts the latest version of Android 4.4 and the custom UI tools that have helped make the range so popular with consumers.
