Samsung Galaxy Note 4 UK release date set for October 10

Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Note 4 will go on sale in the UK on October 10, and that you'll be able to place your pre-order tomorrow.

The 5.7-inch "phablet" will be available for walk-in pre-orders at all Samsung Experience Stores around the country from September 19. This will then be extended to selected retailers - both online and high street - the following week, from September 26.

This is all ahead of general availability two weeks on from that, on October 10, Samsung has confirmed. That's three days earlier than predicted.

All of which seems well timed to offer a high-end alternative to the similarly proportioned iPhone 6 Plus, which goes on general sale (if you can find one) on September 19.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4, of course, will sport a slightly larger and significantly sharper (QHD, or 2560 x 1440) display. Super AMOLED technology will ensure that it's richer in colour too, with deeper blacks.

Samsung's latest will run on a quad-core Snapdragon 805 CPU clocked at 2.7GHz, which is about as fast as mobile processors get right now. That'll be supported by 3GB of RAM, and backed with 32GB of internal storage. There'll also be a microSD slot for expansion purposes.

Add in a 16-megapixel camera, which is likely to be exemplary, and a larger-than-average 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls, and you have quite a package on your hands.

Naturally, this being a Note device, you'll also get Samsung's S Pen system, which will allow you to scribble notes, doodle, rearrange, and more with a rubber-tipped stylus.
