iPad Air 2 case leaks with mystery hole

The iPad Air 2 is expected to launch later this year, and now a claimed case for the next-gen tablet has emerged with a mystery hole.

Located next to the camera’s now traditional camera cut-out, the unexplained orifice sits on the case’s right hand edge, parallel with the image enabler and slightly up from the tablet’s volume controls.

Although similar in size to the hole needed for a 3.5mm audio cable, this is already accounted for in the traditional location.

Having surfaced courtesy of Chinese accessory manufacturers, the claimed iPad Air 2 case offers little additional insight into Apple’s upcoming tablet.

While reports have suggested the cut-out could be for an integrated flash, laser focus or optional camera accessory, given its almost side-mounted location, we can’t see any of these being accurate.

What’s more, given the images’ less than official origins, we suggest they be taken somewhat lightly.

The iPad Air 2 is expected to launch later this year alongside a third-generation iPad mini.

Tipped for a number of incremental updates, the new 9.7-inch tablet is expected to add a TouchID sensor and the same A8 processor found within the new iPhone 6.

Apple has yet to offer any official word on its future tablet plans. Past launches and recent rumours, however, have suggested the Cupertino-based company will unveil its new devices in the latter part of October.
