Samsung has confirmed it is to exit the European laptop market, meaning it’ll stop selling and releasing new Windows and Chromebook notebooks in the region.
The decision, first reported by PC Advisor, comes after Samsung opted against revealing any new laptops at the IFA tech show in Berlin earlier in September.
Samsung says it will reevaluate the decision if market conditions change, but for now it is ‘adapting quickly to market needs,’
Those needs, apparently, don’t include new PCs and do include every imaginable shape, size and design of smartphones, tablets and smart watches.
In a statement, the company wrote: “We quickly adapt to market needs and demands. In Europe, we will be discontinuing sales of laptops including Chromebooks for now.”
“This is specific to the region – and is not necessarily reflective of conditions in other markets. We will continue to thoroughly evaluate market conditions and will make further adjustments to maintain our competitiveness in emerging PC categories.”
Although Windows PC sales are thought to be in heavy decline, the affordable Google Chromecast notebooks are thought to be picking up speed.
Samsung’s Chromebooks are considered among the best available right now, which makes the decision slightly surprising.
