Google+ is still integrated within Gmail
Google is no longer requiring new users of its Gmail webmail client to sign up its unpopular Google Plus social network.
Sometime during this month the web giant backed away from its desire to get as many of its patrons as possible locked into the social network whenever signing up for another Google account.
According to a Google spokesperson, commenting on YouTube video or writing reviews on local restaurants and businesses still require users to be a member of the social network, but that’s it.
The decision sees Google back away somewhat from competition with Facebook and Twitter in the social networking space.
A Wall Street Journal report on Monday suggests Google may have pulled the plug on forced Plus sign ups as it was deterring users from giving the firm’s other services a try.
While Google is reducing the need for a sign up in order to use the company’s other web platforms, a company spokeswoman said “Google is not giving up on Google Plus.”
