Just days before Google I/O kicks off, latest reports have suggested Google plans to launch a Nexus 6 smartphone later this year with an LG G3 inspired 5.5-inch display.
Despite there currently being much will-they, wont-they debate around the possibility of a new Nexus phone, claimed insider sources have suggested Google is planning to launch the new Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 5S rival ‘later this year’.
Citing an unnamed “source within Google who is close to the project,” Ausdroid has reported that work on the Nexus 6 is well and truly underway, with a 5.5-inch screen set to be the Nexus 5 follow-on’s ‘big feature’.
Although the Nexus 6 will reportedly feature a screen equal in size to that of the G3, unlike the past two Nexus phones it is not believed that LG will be responsible for manufacturing the phone’s display, or any other aspect of the phone for that matter.
Speaking last week, LG’s Communications Director Ken Hong suggested that Google had not contacted Google in regards to producing the Nexus 6.
“I know at least not yet. Normally we were informed,” Hong stated.
He added: “That can mean two things. Either I got ignored, or we simply won’t be making [the Nexus 6].”
While the Nexus 6 was never expected to feature during Google I/O – a show which will focus heavily on Android, Google Glass and the rise of wearables – the latest leaks offer a glimmer of hope that Google will continue its push into affordable high-end hardware soon.
However, given the less than official nature of this information, we must suggest that the latest Google Nexus 6 rumours be taken with a pinch of salt for now.
