LG G Watch pre-orders to open later today

LG G Watch pre-orders are set to kick off later today, allowing eager early adopters to secure the first Android Wear powered smartwatch ahead of its upcoming release.

Although a precise LG G Watch release date has yet to be confirmed, with the cutting edge wearable set to be offered for pre-order in the coming hours, we expect the Samsung Gear 2 rival will be just a matter of weeks away.

“The LG G Watch will be available to order later today on the Play Store,” David Singleton, Google’s Director of Engineering for Android said during the company’s Google I/O keynote.

It is currently unclear how much the LG G Watch will set wannabe owners back but rest assured we will keep you posted as soon as we hear more.

Originally been announced back in March, the LG G Watch has remained something of an in-the-open enigma until its Google I/O showing today.

The LG G Watch is one of a trio of Android Wear smartwatch already confirmed for launch, with the square-screened device to line up alongside the newly unveiled Samsung Gear Live in the coming weeks and the round Motorola Moto 360 later this summer.

The first smartwatch to land running Google’s new Android Wear OS, the LG G Watch will be compatible with any Android handset irrespective of manufacturer.

Android Wear is a touch-based operating system which features many of the same feature of its smartphone and tablet sibling.

Offering notifications and alerts direct to your wrist, Android Wear will work with the G Watch’s inbuilt microphone to let users utilise Google Now to set reminders, search the web or interact with all manner of apps.
