Xbox One February 11 update will be optional and introduce background updates

The Xbox One update arriving on February 11 will be optional, but will offer the ability to download future updates in the background.

Arriving tomorrow, February 11, the first Xbox One update will introduce many new small features including a tweaked Xbox One dashboard.

According to an Xbox rep speaking to Kotaku, you will only receive the Xbox One update if you manually choose to download it.

The Xbox One update will introduce the ability to download all future updates in the background, which will be a handy feature for those who can’t stop gaming.

The slightly modified Xbox One dashboard (see above), only serves to tweak the existing version a little with additions like a controller battery indicator.

You’ll also be able to manage your storage and view a boot progress indicator, in order to keep you updated as to how your install is going.

The Kinect voice commands will also be improved following the update, “so commands become more fluid and responsive over time”, explained Microsoft.

There will also be a second Xbox One update on March 4 in preparation for the Titanfall release date on March 14 in the UK.

This second update will introduce a “new party and multiplayer system”, as well as other “new features and improvements.”sc

“This post is the first of many announcements and sneak peeks at features in the system updates”, explained Marc Whitten, Xbox Chief Product Officer. “We’re been carefully listening to your feedback and look forward to delivering many new features that will make Xbox One even better. We’re just getting started and can’t wait to share more information in the coming weeks.”
