With the LG G2 having return the Korean manufacturer to smartphone prominence last year, a newly surfaced trademark filing has confirmed that a follow-on LG G3 is in the works.
Despite the LG G Pro 2 being readied for an MWC 2014 unveiling later this month, LG is looking to its flagship smartphone future, with the LG G3 branding having passed through the US Patents and Trademarks Office ahead of the phone’s expected launch this summer.
Suggesting that the handset could be close to completion, {pullquyote}the LG G3 trademark was filed under the ‘Mobile Phones’ sector last Wednesday, February 5{/pullquote}.
Although the LG G3 naming has been confirmed, details on the handset’s specs remain clouded in mystery, with no details of size or functions having yet surfaced.
With the LG G2 having been unveiled last August ahead of an October 1 UK release, it is expected that the inbound LG G3 will follow a similar launch pattern, with a summer unveiled rumoured to be on the cards.
A true flagship product range, the LG G2 was the first handset to be powered by the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, with the device lining up as a direct rival to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S.
Running a stunning 5.2-inch, 1080p Full HD display in a near bezel-less design, the 8.9mm thick LG G2 saw its quad-core CPU paired with 2GB of RAM and Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS.
With a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera, the LG G2 specs sheet was rounded off by a 2.1-megapixel forward facing snapper, rear-mounted volume and sleep controls and a 3000mAh Lithium-polymer stepped battery.
