Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei is set to enter the smartwatch game, with the company’s first techy timepiece being tipped for an MWC 2014 unveiling later this month.
With Huawei having improved its smartphone offerings over the past 12 months, introducing the super slim Huawei Ascend P6 and oversized Huawei Ascend Mate 2, it has been suggested that the company is now looking to target the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Gear and enter the wearables market.
According to latest reports, the first Huawei smartwatch will be showcased during the company’s pre-MWC press conference on Sunday, February 23.
Citing unnamed company sources, the WSJ has stated: “The latest to jump on the smartwatch bandwagon is China’s Huawei Technologies, which plans to unveil one at the Mobile World Congress later this month in Barcelona.”
As well as launching its first smartwatch, Huawei looks set to use the Barcelona launch platform to unveil an all new smartphone and two new tablet offerings.
Although a new handset is on the cards, the company has reportedly confirmed that the new device will not be the eagerly awaited P6 follow-on, with a separate Huawei Ascend P7 launch said to be pencilled in for later this summer.
While the company is expected to launch two new tablets, presumably separate 7-inch and 10-inch models, no details on the iPad rivals have yet surfaced.
