Developer Naughty Dog has confirmed plans for a The Last of Us 2, revealing that it is currently ‘brainstorming ideas’ for the game’s follow-on.
Having wowed PS3 gamers with The Last of Us late last year, developer Naughty Dog has now confirmed that a sequel to the post-apocalyptic thriller is on the cards alongside plans for a range of new IPs.
Although confirming to Eurogamer that a The Last of Us sequel is under consideration at Naughty Dog, the game’s writer and creative director Neil Druckmann has revealed that any follow-on title is still many years away, with no concrete details having yet been decided.
"We just wrapped up [upcoming The Last of Us DLC] Left Behind, and Bruce Straley, the game director, and I have been doing this for over four years now. So it's just time for a break, and to recharge the batteries," Druckmann said in a recent interview.
However, teasing a potential The Last of Us sequel, he added: "We have started brainstorming some stuff. To be honest, some of them are sequel ideas, and some of them are brand new IP - we've spent the last few weeks brainstorming new IP.
"So we have to get some good steps and see... It's kind of like how we approached Left Behind. Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't, where can we get inspired - what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"
With the Left Behind release set to be rolled out on February 14, the developer has said that there will be no more The Last of Us DLC content moving forward.
