Bags more space for games
Microsoft has showed its continuing commitment to the Xbox 360, revealing a new 500GB hard drive for the last–gen console.
Xbox 360 owners will be able to snare the capacious storage device soon, after it went on pre–order in the United States. A UK launch has not been confirmed, but it seems unlikely that this will be a Stateside only release.
At $110 (£66), the new new 500GB HDD comes in cheaper than the current 320GB model. That costs $130 (£78), although it could be the case that Microsoft will discontinue or slash the price of the older version.
The new drive is clearly aimed at gamers using the monthly ‘Games with Gold’ download service. With new titles available regularly, it seems Microsoft is happy to see its older console keep on kicking for a few years yet.
Swapping out a hard drive on an Xbox 360 is easy and doesn’t requite too much tinkering. However, non–techie types should be sure to take a look at the console’s manual before doing so.
Storage has been a big theme for the Redmond company of late. A new Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Xbox One package will see that console come with a 1TB hard drive. Who said the age of local storage was dead?
