Sharp has unveiled an exciting-looking new smartphone, the Aquos Crystal, which features a true edge-to-edge display.
We've seen plenty of phones that claim to have edge-to-edge displays, or which at least feature extremely slim bezels. But the new Sharp Aquos Crystal makes such efforts look very tame indeed.
As you can see from the image above, which comes courtesy of Japanese website Buzzapp, this smartphone leaves nothing but the slimmest of boundaries around its 5-inch display.
Aside from this impressive technical feat, the Sharp Aquos Crystal appears to be a fairly modest mid-range Android phone.
It 5-inch display sports a 720p resolution, while it's powered by a mere 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor. Around back there's a modest-sounding 8-megapixel camera, and there's a 2040mAh battery feeding it juice.
Those who want the high-end specs to match this stunning edge-to-edge display technology should take note of the Sharp Aquos Crystal X, which will come with a 5.5-inch edge-to-edge 1080p display and a vastly more powerful quad-core Snapdragon 801 CPU.
There's just one catch: the Aquos Crystal X will be Japan-only.
As for the plain old Aquos Crystal, that will at least be making its way to the US in limited numbers, so a European launch isn't entirely out of the question. Just unlikely.
