iPad mini 3 with Touch ID
Leaked pictures appear to show the iPad mini 3 featuring Apple's Touch ID authentication system.
We've already seen pictorial evidence that both the iPhone 6 and the iPad Air 2 will contain the Touch ID fingerprint-detecting system that debuted on the iPhone 5S.
Now we've received apparent confirmation that the iPad mini 3 will follow suit, courtesy of Taiwanese website Apple.club.tw.
The above image appears to show all three of the above devices stacked one on top of the other. Of particular interest is that it appears to offer a glimpse of the next iPad mini and its Touch ID-imbued home button.
Apple is set to expand the uses for its Touch ID system in iOS 8, which will launch this autumn. As well as the usual system access and App Store payments, you'll be able to use your fingerprint to make purchase through third party apps and services.
This means that the expansion of Apple's Touch ID system throughout the iOS range is surely imminent.
There don't appear to be any other notable design tweaks or enhancements to the new iPad mini, which would mean that Apple's compact tablet will have kept the same basic form for all three of its iterations.
Recent iPad Air 2 image leaks suggest slight tweaks to the volume keys and speaker grille, but no major alterations.
Of course, these are evidently model units rather than final working devices, so they're not necessarily final designs. With the iPad Air range (and even the iPhone 6) following the original iPad mini's lead, though, we're not expecting any radical changes.
We should see the iPad mini 3 and iPad Air 2 revealed some time towards the end of the year.
