Is this the 5.5-inch panel set to hit the iPhone 6?
With the iPhone 6 reportedly set to land in both 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch guises, latest leaks have claimed to out the upcoming handset’s larger display.
Surfacing courtesy of repeated Apple tipster Sonny Dickson, the above picture is said to show the 5.5-inch panel reportedly set to feature within the Cupertino-based company’s forthcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rival.
Although Dickson has failed to detail where the teased images have surfaced from – and so we must stress this leak be taken with a pinch of salt – the latest 5.5-inch iPhone 6 tease follows images earlier this week which claimed to show a fully constructed dummy model of the device doing the rounds in Hong Kong.
For those of you who struggle with the metric system and conversions, the 14cm display shown in the picture alongside a ruler is 5.51-inches in size – a perfect fit with what is expected from one of Apple’s upcoming handsets.
Although Apple has yet to officially acknowledge the existence of such a device, the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is widely expected to land alongside a more manageable 4.7-inch offering as a means to stem the rise of Android-based phablet devices.
A 5.5-inch panel would see the oversized iPhone land a full 1.5-inch’s bigger than the existing iPhone 5S and the same size as the recently unveiled LG G3.
Both size offerings of the iPhone 6 are said to benefit from a new A8 processor, improved 8-megapixel camera and the upcoming iOS 8 operating system.
An iPhone 6 release date is widely expected to be held around late September or early October, a launch window which will also see the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
