Is this the iPad Air 2, TouchID and all?
New iPad Air 2 leaks have shown that the upcoming tablet will benefit from the same TouchID fingerprint sensor technology as the iPhone 5S.
With Apple having introduced the home button-incorporated biometric security measure within last year’s flagship smartphone, it appears the TouchID sensor will now be expanded throughout the company’s 2014 iDevice offerings.
Having last week popped up aboard the as yet unconfirmed iPad mini 3, latest leaks have shown what appears to be a picture of the iPad Air 2 with the distinct silver ring of the TouchID sensor in tow.
Appearing courtesy of the Twitter feed of Nowhereelse.fr’s Steve Hemmerstoffer, the leaked iPad Air 2 image has interesting been joined by the strapline “Hello #iPad6”.
Although it is unclear if Hemmerstoffer is suggesting Apple will refer to its next tablet as the iPad 6 or if this is simply in reference to the device being the company’s sixth iPad, we can’t see Apple reversing on its new iPad Air naming theme.
While the device is widely being referred to as the iPad Air 2, it is likely that Apple will drop any numbering system, instead referring to the upcoming device simple as the new iPad Air.
Recent iPad Air 2 rumours have hinted that the tablet could come running a new A8 processor alongside the WWDC 2014 unveiled iOS 8 operating system.
Further devices tipped to land later this years with the TouchID sensor on board include both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models which have been doing the rumour mill rounds in recent weeks.
