The Samsung Galaxy S5 Zoom is expected to launch at a special event on April 29.
Samsung has just released press invitations for a media event on April 29, indicating the launch of a brand new Galaxy device.
According to the official Samsung Mobile Twitter account, the Samsung Media Day event will take place on April 29 in Singapore and seems to be camera-centric.
Of course, the invite doesn’t give tonnes away about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5 variant, but does feature the tagline “Kapture the Moment”, with the K specifically highlighted.
This is a strong nod to the Galaxy K codename for the Galaxy S5 Zoom, plus there’s a smartphone hiding in that giant K to the right of the invite.
Plus, the timing is spot on. The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom was launched two months after the Samsung Galaxy S4 and if this is the S5 Zoom, it will arrive two months after the February MWC Galaxy S5 launch.
The idea that Samsung is deliberately using the K for the teaser marketing suggests the South Korean electronics giant may well not drop the codename come launch and could surprise us by calling it something other than the Galaxy S5 Zoom.
Having already passed through the FCC, we already know quite a bit about the Galaxy S5 Zoom. It is tipped to feature a 20.2-megapixel rear camera sensor with 10x optical zoom and a secondary 2.1-megapixel front-facing snapper.
Optical image stabilisation is also expected to make the cut, along with a rear Xenon flash, new camera software modes and microSD card support.
Unlike the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5’s 5.01-inch full 1080p HD display, the S5 Zoom will feature a 4.8-inch 720p HD screen.
An image of the Galaxy S5 Zoom leaked earlier this month, showing a slimmer design with a less protruding rear sensor. Basically this Zoom will look a lot more like a phone and less like a compact camera with a smartphone screen.
