HTC One M8 mini release date again tipped for May

The HTC One M8 mini has been pencilled in for a May release date, seemingly confirming previous rumours.

A new Taiwanese report suggests HTC is gearing up to launch the mid-range version of its 2014 flagship HTC One M8 next month.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of a HTC One M8 mini either. Earlier this month a UK retailer source suggested that the HTC One M8 mini would arrive sometime in May, featuring the same metal unibody design as the flagship.

Just hours after the HTC One M8 was officially unveiled, notorious tech tipster @evleaks also tweeted that a HTC One M8 mini was en route, simply posting the phrase “M8 mini: check”.

According to the Taiwanese report, the M8 mini will feature a 4.5-inch 720p HD display in contrast to the One M8’s 5-inch 1080p full HD screen.

The M8 mini is also tipped to offer a 13-megapixel rear camera, so those of you hoping to see the dual-sensor UltraPixel camera of the HTC One M8 make an appearance will be sorely disappointed.

It will also have a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory with microSD support. This is also quite different from the 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU with 2GB of RAM found in the flagship.

Of course, it will feature the latest HTC Sense 6.0 UI with Android 4.4 KitKat OS underneath just like its big brother.

There’s no indication as to how much the HTC One M8 mini will cost at this stage, but it will have to compete with the likes of the extremely successful Motorola Moto G introduced at the tail end of 2013.

Aside from the HTC One M8 mini there have been rumours HTC is considering a plastic bodied version of the HTC One M8 with the exact same internal hardware.
