The first images of the Amazon Kindle Fire smartphone have allegedly leaked online, giving us a first look at the potential Amazon phone.
Following multiple leaks surrounding Amazon debuting its first smartphone device later this year, the first image of the rumoured handset have emerged online.
Thanks to “multiple trusted sources” speaking to BGR, we now have the first images of the Amazon smartphone prototype, which is currently covered by a protective shell to shield some of its design from prying eyes.
According to the sources, those rumours of a 3D software interface are true. The Amazon phone will apparently feature six cameras in total, including a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats and Amazon Mayday.
The four other cameras will be used to create a 3D effect interface, located in the four corners of the front of the smartphone.
These low-power infrared cameras will track your eye and head movements and adjust the display accordingly, altering the perspective of the 3D UI visuals.
Similar to a hologram and the Nintendo 3DS technology, the Amazon phone will offer a glasses-free 3D effect, specifically highlighted by several areas of its software.
For example, the lock screen will feature specially designed wallpapers that shift perspective as you move the phone, akin to the effect vaguely achieved by the parallax of iOS 7.
The sources also suggest that the maps app will change the view according to the angle you hold it at. The 3D effect will be used in “several main apps”, but not all at launch.
Apparently the 3D effect will be particularly special when utilised with the various Amazon stores. You’ll be able to explore 3D product images at different angles that you wouldn’t be able to do in 2D.
In terms of other specs, the Amazon phone is tipped to feature a 720p HD 4.7-inch display powered by an unknown Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM.
It is also tipped to feature a similar Android OS to the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet range like the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7.
The Amazon phone release date has been tipped for late summer, with an official launch happening in the next two to three months.
Similar to the recently unveiled Amazon Fire TV hardware, it looks like the phone will initially be a US exclusive.
