iTunes Radio UK launch could be soon

Apple’s iTunes Radio service could be imminent, as information leaks on the company’s behind the scenes promotion activities.

iTunes Radio is a free personalised internet radio service that offers up customised and themed playlists, with an emphasis on allowing users to then buy the individual tracks and related albums that they like the sound of through iTunes.

The service launched in the US on June 10 last year, but we’re now seeing signs that it could be set for release here in the UK almost a year later.

It seems as if Apple’s director of iAd, Paul Wright, has been visiting UK media marketing agencies to promote his company’s advertising platform in relation to iTunes Radio.

"Great to see @paulwright66 back at @OMD_UK to take us through Apple's iAd and iTunes Radio - can't wait for that to hit UK!" tweeted Hannah Allen, head of marketing at OMD UK.

No further information was forthcoming as to the UK iTunes Radio launch window, however.

Back in October, it was reported that iTunes Radio would be making its way to the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the Nordic countries in early 2014. This could still prove to be the case if it turns up over the coming weeks.

More recently, rumours have hit the web that Apple is due to launch a radical overhaul of iTunes, with download sales on a downward curve. It seems as if iTunes Radio has thus far been unable to halt that slide, with the traffic driven to purchase tracks said to be very low.

Apple will no doubt be hoping that the wider world responds to the iTunes Radio service more favourably than its home US market, but it could be even tougher on the home turf of the mighty Spotify.
