Netflix adds Disney and Disney Pixar films to catalogue

Disney and Disney Pixar movies have found their way into the Netflix catalogue in the UK and Ireland.

Starting today, Netflix subscribers in the UK and Ireland can enjoy Disney and Disney Pixar movies on-demand, despite the semi-exclusive Netflix and Disney deal being signed late last year.

The initial Disney offering on Netflix will include Pixar movies like Ratatouille and Wall-E, classic Disney films like The Aristocats and Dumbo as well as live-action movies The Chronicles of Narnia and Pirates of the Caribbean.

“We always look to offer families Disney movies when, where and how they want them,” said Catherine Powell, SVP and GM for Disney Media Distribution at EMEA. “Working with Netflix in the UK and Ireland, we’re providing its members with a superb range of move entertainment, through a high-quality and convenient viewing experience.”

Within the next few months, Netflix subscribers will also gain access to movies created by Disney, Marvel and Dreamworks SKG, such as The Help and War Horse.

In 2014, Netflix will offer exclusive on-demand access to films like Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, The Muppets and John Carter.

“We are delighted to be able to offer our members an incredible variety of fantastic family films, from recent hits like Marvel’s Avengers Assemble to beloved classics like Mary Poppins,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. “We aim to make Netflix better all the time and hope members enjoy the rich offering of films we are making available from the Disney studios.”

In February, Sky announced it was adding a dedicated Sky Movies Disney channel to its film offerings and made the films available on its Sky Go and Sky Go Extra services in March.

The Disney additions to Netflix are sure to compete with the Sky Movies Disney channel, especially appealing to families who can’t afford the premium Sky subscriptions.
