The BlackBerry 10.1 operating system update launched alongside the BlackBerry Q10 handset is to be made available for the flagship BlackBerry Z10 handset from today, May 14.
Making the announcement during his BlackBerry Live Keynote speech, BlackBerry President and CEO Thorsten Heins has confirmed that the BlackBerry Z10 10.1 update will bring a number of improvements and feature tweaks to the full touch handset starting from today.
“I am pleased to announce that from today, BlackBerry 10.1 will start rolling out to BlackBerry Z10 users,” Heins stated. “By the end of end of this week, the vast majority of our global carrier partners will offer this update and US carriers will begin rolling it out later this month.”
Adding a selection of improvements including HDR photography and a modified BlackBerry Hub, the BlackBerry 10.1 software overhaul is the first full update to be released for the BlackBerry Z10 since the handset’s official launch just over three months ago.
Talking on the company’s desire to keep its latest mobile operating system fresh and constantly improving, Heins added: “We are committed to providing platform updates on a regular and frequent basis to our customers. This is a must in our vibrant and active industry.
“We will continue to add new features to enhance our customers’ mobile experience, such as HDR camera capture for more dynamic photos, an improved BlackBerry Hub and even more.”
Launching in the UK in late January, the BlackBerry Z10 was the first BlackBerry 10 handset, with the 4.2-inch handset playing host to a 1280 x 768p touchscreen display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM.
A full touchscreen offering that lacks a physical keyboard, the BlackBerry Z10 features list is bolstered by an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera and a second, 2-megapixel forward-facing snapper. Lining up at 9mm thick and 137.5g in weight, the BlackBerry Z10 also adds 16GB of internal storage and an 1800mAh Lithium-Ion battery into the mix.
