Android 4.3 Key Lime Pie?
Android 4.3 has been confirmed on the Google developer site ahead of a rumoured Google I/O unveiling.
Google’s next-gen Android mobile OS will be called Android 4.3 rather than Android 5.0 as originally thought, if the search listing that cropped up on Google’s developers website is correct.
Any mention of Android 4.3, potentially the long-rumoured Android Key Lime Pie upgrade, has since been removed from the site, but it could be officially unveiled during the Google I/O keynote speech later today.
Android 4.3 Features
Unfortunately the brief mention of Android 4.3 gave little away about the OS update, but it could see Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) support added as well as the OpenGL for Embedded Systems 3.0 graphics specifications that would allow for advanced gaming graphics on the Android platform.
BLE is useful for conserving battery life on Android devices connected to wireless speakers or other such Bluetooth devices.
In terms of features, Android 4.3 Key Lime Pie could introduce a Google music-streaming service, a mobile gaming hub in the form of an Apple Game Centre-like Google Play Games.
Other features Google is bound to improve include Google Now, perhaps with the addition of Google Babel, which is expected to unite Google Chat, Google Talk, Google Voice and Google Plus into a single communication service.
Hopefully we should see Google latest iteration of the Android OS make an appearance on one or more new devices. Highly-anticipated releases include a next-generation Google Nexus 7 tablet, plus seeing as the Google Nexus 4 has been pulled from UK retailers, the Google Nexus 5 could debut too.
