Take-Two has confirmed that there will be no GTA 5 presence at E3 this year because Rockstar Games is focusing its efforts on alternate events.
Don’t expect any GTA 5 gameplay footage at E3 2013, as publisher Take-Two confirms neither of its two labels, Rockstar Games and 2K, will attend the annual gaming conference.
“This year, our labels will not have a booth on the [E3] show floor,” said Karl Slatoff, President of Take-Two, during an earnings call. “Both Rockstar Games and 2K have instead decided to focus their marketing and PR efforts on a series of events throughout the spring and summer.”
However, Slatoff did confirm that the game is on track for the September 17 GTA 5 release date and predicts it to be “the biggest and most important launch of the current console generation.”
“Grand Theft Auto 5 is on track for its planned worldwide release launch on September 17. Rockstar Games recently released three new character trailers to an overwhelmingly positive response from both fans and media. In addition, two weeks ago, the game was demoed for press, and resulting converse has been exponential – I’m sorry, exceptional.”
The GTA 5 map is tipped to be around three and a half times bigger than the vast expanse of the Red Dead Redemption world and larger than the combined map sizes of GTA: San Andreas and GTA 4.
“It’s worth noting that people are responding not only to the game’s vast size and scope but also to its innovative three-character structure and heist mission design, which offer immense opportunities for game play and storytelling that should raise the bar, not only for this franchise but for all interactive entertainment.”
News of the lack of a GTA 5 presence at E3 2013 was revealed as part of Take-Two’s Q4 2013 earnings call where the videogame published announced “strong revenue growth and sold non-GAAP earnings”. However, the publisher believes that 2014 will be even stronger, bolstered by the GTA 5 release and new IPs for the next-gen PS4 and Xbox 720 consoles.
“Fiscal 2014 promises to be one of our best years ever, highlighted by the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 5 in September,” added Strauss H. Zelnick, Chairman and CEO of Take-Two. “We also have an extraordinary pipeline of titles in development for next-generation platforms, including groundbreaking new intellectual property and releases from our proven franchises.”
