LG is to echo Apple and HTC and craft its next flagship phone from metal, latest reports have suggested.
With metal having become something of a prerequisite for high-end smartphone success, insiders have claimed LG is looking to ditch its beloved polycarbonate in favour of the premium material for its next flagship offering.
According to an unnamed LG insider speaking with ZDNet, the previously mooted LG G4 Note will echo the likes of the iPhone 6 and HTC One M9 and see LG move to a metal body for the first time.
Although it is reported that the manufacturer had hoped to have its Computer Precision Controlled (CPC) design plans in place for the upcoming LG G4, it is suggested that production difficulties have ruled this out.
Instead, the G4 will retain its predecessor’s plastic form, while the G4 Note will reportedly enter the realms of reality in the second half of the year as a robust rival to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
LG has yet to comment on the potential switch to metal-formed phones.

According to recent leaks, the LG G4 will hit retailers in the coming months as a dramatically overhauled follow-on to the award winning LG G3.
With leaked images showing the handset to feature a slightly curved form, similar to the LG Spirit, the G4 has been tipped to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset alongside an improved 16-megapixel camera and 3GB of RAM.
