Images have leaked revealing a stunning bezelless smartphone from Chinese manufacturer Oppo.

The maker of the Oppo N3 and the Oppo R5 Android smartphones clearly has something a bit special up its sleeves, based on reports from its native China.

As Engadget reports, a number of Chinese tech writers have received these pictures of a new Oppo smartphone from so-called anonymous sources. It could well be a quick and easy teaser campaign from the company itself.

The most striking thing about the mysterious handset is the virtual lack of any side bezels. It's close to being an edge-to-edge display.

We've seen such a display before in the Sharp Aquos Crystal, though that also did away with the top bezel. This Oppo effort keeps the top and bottom bezels pretty much even.

Elsewhere, a patent application discovered by GSM Arena shows the technology employed for for this display. It's actually an optical effect rather than a true edge-to-edge panel, with a "special light guide structure" refracting the light outwards to form the impression of an almost bezelless screen.

This too is similar to the approach used by Sharp in the aforementioned Aquos Crystal.

We don't have any information on pricing or availability for this new Oppo smartphone, but we'll let you know as soon as we learn more.
