Apple will launch a plastic-bodied follow-on to the iPhone 5C later this year, latest reports have suggested.
Tentatively dubbed the iPhone 6C, the plastic-clad smartphone will reportedly debut in Q3 as a sub-specced sibling to the flagship iPhone 6S and oversized iPhone 6S Plus.
Citing unnamed ‘industry sources’, DigiTimes has suggested the iPhone 6C will line up as a 4-inch phone with a Gorilla Glass coated LTPS display.
Building on the 2013-released 5C, the mooted device will reportedly pair the iPhone 6’s existing A8 processor with Apple Pay friendly features including integrated NFC and a TouchID fingerprint scanner.
A Q3 arrival for the three phones would fit with Apple's traditional product cycles. The company usually introduces its latest smartphone lines in September.
Little else is known about the rumoured Samsung Galaxy A5 rival, although it has been claimed Sharp and LG will provide screens for the handset which will be pieced together by manufacturing partner Wistron.
Given the less than official avenues from which this information has emerged, however, we must stress that these reports be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt for now.

The iPhone 5C was a step away from Apple’s traditional smartphone offerings, shunning premium materials in favour of more affordable, and brightly hued plastic.
If following in a similar fashion, the 6C could open up Apple’s mobile echo system to a whole new range of potential consumers.
