Samsung has confirmed it’s going to produce a limited edition range of Galaxy Alpha handsets touting snakeskin-style backs.

The firm’s French website reveals four multi-coloured leathery rears, with brown, dark grey, burgundy, and teal offerings all up for grabs, as spotted by PhoneArena.

Unfortunately for those of you with such eclectic tastes, only 100 of each style will be producing.

It’s not yet clear what material is actually being used for the rear, but it’s probably something quite ritzy as the price is rising to 649 euros from the usual 569 euros. In UK terms, that’s the equivalent of hiking £447 up to £510.

Samsung developed the new back-plates alongside artisan brand Free Lance and come with certificates of authenticity signed by designer Jean-Baptiste Rautureau.

The South Korean firm launched the Galaxy Alpha earlier this year, marking the first flagship to feature a metal trim as part of the chassis – a stark departure from the usual plastic fare on offer.

As far as specs go, you’re looking at a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1280 x 720 resolution – that’s 312 ppi.

Also inside is an octa-core Exynos 5430 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 12-megapixel rear camera good for 4K-video capture.

There’s no word on whether the snazzy snakeskin models will be coming to the UK, but we’ll keep you posted as we find out more.
