LG has announced itself as a major tech partner for Mercedes-Benz’ forthcoming foray into self-driving cars.
The German auto giant plans a huge keynote announcement at CES 2015, with LG hugely involved thanks to the use of its ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) technology.
LG will provide the all-important camera systems which will ensure the cars stay within their lanes and dim the headlights in the face of ongoing traffic.
The firm's cameras will also enable the car to brake autonomously and spot potential dangers like pedestrians and cyclists.
Differing slightly from Google's approach, Mercedes is working on a semi-autonomous solution that will enable drivers to transfer some of the controls to the vehicle.
As such, inside the car, LG will provide Mercedes with biometric systems which monitor eye movement and alertness, in order to protect against drivers falling asleep at the wheel. There’ll also be integration with LG’s home entertainment and mobile technology.

In return for its expertise, LG will the able to license Mercedes-Benz’ 6D Vision technology, in order for LG to bring along endeavours.
The Mercedes-Benz and LG prototype will apparently be on show at CES 2015, an event which promises to bring a ton of news on smarter and self-driving cars.
