Twitter apes Facebook with photo-centric redesign

Twitter has announced it is rolling out a new redesign that looks and feels rather similar to Facebook.

The new Twitter design introduces new personalised Twitter profile pages, which aim to show off your likes and favourites a clearer.

Basically, Twitter has changed your web profile page into a Facebook-esque Timeline, which features a larger profile picture, extended header akin to the Cover Photo of your Facebook profile and all your tweets are now centralised, with images and links appearing in full preview mode.

“Moment by moment, your Twitter profile shows the world who you are. Starting today, it will be even easier (and, we think, more fun) to express yourself through a new and improved web profile”, explained Twitter designer David Bellona.

According to Twitter, the main features of the new Twitter profile include Best Tweets, which make the most engaged with tweets appear slightly larger.

You can also pin your tweet to the top of your profile page, making it immediately clear how you want to be seen on Twitter.

Plus, you can chose to filter tweets when checking out other people’s profiles. You can filter by tweets only, tweets with photo/video content, or tweets and their replies.

“This new profile setup is available today to a small group of users. If you’re new to Twitter, you’ll start in with the new profile. In the coming weeks, we will roll out the new features to everyone.”

Currently, select public figures have been given the redesign Twitter makeover, including First Lady Michelle Obama (@flotus), musicians John Legend (@JohnLegend) and Weezer (@weezer) and film star Channing Tatum (@channingtatum).

We’re not too keen on the redesign ourselves, it seems far too similar to Facebook for our liking, but like all the other updates, we’re sure we’ll get used to it.
