Will Apple's first wearable touch down in Q3
As the Samsung Gear 2 edges closer to release and with the LG G Watch having recently entered the realms of reality, latest reports have suggested an Apple iWatch launch date is being lined up for Q3 2014.
A launch window which would mean Apple’s eagerly awaited and heavily rumoured smartwatch would be just six months or so from launch, the latest Apple iWatch rumours have claimed that the Q3 release will follow a lengthy production period that will see some 65 million units created before the year’s end.
If accurate, this sizeable production run shows strong belief on Apple’s part in its first wearable offering.
According to recent reports, the Apple iWatch will be manufactured in partnership with Apple supplier Quanta Computer, with components to be supplied by TPK and Richtek Technology.
The latest iWatch rumours, which come courtesy of Taiwan’s Economic Daily News and should be taken with a pinch of salt, have also claimed that the Motorola Moto 360 rival will land with a sapphire glass touch panel display.
Although the wearable’s full specs sheet and features list remains shrouded in mystery, recent iOS 8 leaks have hinted that, with Apple set to launch a new Healthbook companion app for its smartphones and tablets, the iWatch will have a predominantly fitness-based ilk.
Expected to play host to the usual collection of distance tracking, calorie burn monitoring and steps taken data metrics, it has been mooted that the iWatch could also play host to everything from an inbuilt heart rate monitor to a remodelled version of the iOS operating system.
What’s more, the rumoured Q3 iWatch launch would see the wrist wear land in the expected window for the hotly anticipated iPhone 6, a device expected in mid to late September.
