Samsung could launch a tablet with an AMOLED display at MWC 2014 , according to some Korean media reports.
According to the Korean media, Samsung is about to start mass production of AMOLED tablet displays and will launch the new devices at MWC.
Apparently, Samsung has a 10-inch AMOLED slate and a smaller 8-inch variety in the works for an imminent launch.
Samsung’s famed AMOLED display technology hasn’t really been used in tablets until now because of the difficulty and cost of introducing the technology into screen sizes between 8- and 10-inches.
However, the report suggest Samsung will use the new tablets to boost its AMOLED production line capacity, which should bring down costs.
Of course, the AMOLED panels would increase the cost of any such tablet, so expect the 10-inch and 8-inch models to be premium products if and when they do launch.
Earlier reports suggested Samsung would launch a 10.5-inch AMOLED display tablet at CES 2014, but of course that didn’t actually happen.
Instead, Samsung used the Las Vegas trade show to announce the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 and the 12.2-inch Samsung Galaxy Note Pro tablets, which both arrived without an AMOLED display.
Both of the new tablets, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, all feature a TFT LCD display with a 2560 x 1600p resolution.
Samsung already use AMOLED display technology in several of its smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and in TVs as well.
AMOLED technology doesn’t use a backlight, but utilises the photons that are naturally emitted by the pixels themselves.
The screen technology also uses less power, improves response time and offers higher refresh rates than alternatives like LCD.
