Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear
The Senneiser Momentum On-Ear headphones have been officially launched, marking Sennheiser’s most lifestyle-conscious product to date.
The full-size Sennheiser Momentum now have siblings – the Momentum On-Ear are smaller, lower-cost headphones that rest on your ears rather than fully encompassing them.
Unlike the vast majority of Sennheiser’s headphones, they don’t come in dark, moody shades, instead embracing a bit of colour.
The Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear comes in four colours, none of which is black.
Sennheiser employed colour specialists to pick out the cream, pistachio, blue and pink shades the £169.99 headphones will initially ship in.
These form the Momentum On-Ear’s summer shades, with a winter collection teased by Sennheiser for later this year.
The ‘winter’ collection will likely include black and red colours a little closer in style to the original Momentum headphones, so you may want to hold fire if initially cheery colours aren’t gloomy enough for your tastes.
The blue, green, pink and cream versions of the headphones will initially go on sale in John Lewis and at Sennheiser’s online store in mid-July before spreading to other retailers, including Amazon, in the coming months.
Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear design and sound quality
Design-wise, the Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear look and feel similar to the original Momentums, but with smaller earcups.
However, rather than using leather to top the earpads and headband, the Momenum On-Ear use Alacantra.
In the headphone world, this is most closely comparable to velour, commonly used to top the pads of at-home headphones.
Alacantra is a trademarked fabric, though, and benefits from being water resistant and more durable than bog-standard velour.
Sennheiser claims it is “loved by yacht and automotive upholsterers,” telling us the sort of high-end feel the company is out to recreate.
The Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear are portable-friendly headphones, using a twist-to-lock removable cable that features a 3-button remote for iPhones and iPods.
The sound signature has been tailored for today’s tastes too, with a “slight bass emphasis” according to Sennhesier.
