Motorola Droid Ultra leaked

Motorola will not simply be relying on its much anticipated Moto X handset in 2013, judging by recent leaks of the Droid Ultra.

The above image appeared on the XDA Developers forum over the weekend, where user xavierk75 posted it under the Motorola Droid Ultra XT1080 label.

As the Droid name would suggest, the Motorola Droid Ultra is thought to be coming to US network Verizon by the end of the year.

Motorola revealed that it had a device called the Motorola Droid Ultra in the works when it published a placeholder (since removed) for the device on its website last week. The words "Think Thin" accompanied the placeholder, suggesting that the Droid Ultra may join the LG Optimus G2 and Huawei Ascend P6 in the super-slim smartphone class. As the above leaked photo suggests, it certainly has a skinny bezel.

Also notable from the picture is the fact that the phone contains capacitive buttons embedded within this bezel, rather than going with the virtual set-up that Motorola's owner Google prefers in its Android phones.

No further spec information has been divulged for the Motorola Droid Ultra, but it's worth reminding ourselves that the forthcoming Moto X handset will probably be a mid-range device. This would appear to leave the way open for a true high-end Motorola smartphone to compete with the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4.

It's rumoured that the Moto X, which you'll be able to have a hand in designing yourself, will be launched at a special event on July 11.
